Four years ago, Target introduced a unique, user-friendlydesign for its pill bottles. Like most successful design projects, it took years of work and determination. Use these three tips to ensure your own design project succeeds instead of expiring on the shelf:
Prototype early. PowerPoint presentations can only convey so much. Create a prototype of the product early so everyone involved in the project can see and rally around it.
Prepare for a long ride. Pushing a design project through an organization requires patience with the decision-making process and a lot of persistence.
Involve the people who matter most. Target relied on its pharmacists to guide the pill bottle design. Frontline workers who will interact with the product and the customers who buy it have valuable insight into design and usability. Involve them in the project early and often.
